Matt Curlee was born in Greensboro, North Carolina where he
studied organ with Billy Summers and also was a horn player and jazz pianist. He then
studied at the Oundle Festival in the U.K. and at the Salem Organ Academy and Richard
Erickson and piano with Douglas Humphries and is currently an undergraduate student of
David Higgs at the Eastman School of Music in Rochester.
Mr Curlee has participated in master class with Peter
Hurford, Gillian Weir, Simon Preston, Nicholas Kynaston and Ludgar Lohmann, among others.
He won the 1996 Grand Prix de Chartres - Interpretation and that same year was the winner
of Eastman’s Harold Gleason Emerging Artists Award.
Mr Curlee has since performed throughout North America and
Europe, including recent performances in the French cathedrals of Chartres, Nice, Monaco
and Montpelier, and at international music festivals in Canada, France and Switzerland. He
has also appeared at Westminster Abbey, and in Italy, he has performed in Ravenna and
Bergamo, and at the abbey in Chiusi della Verna. A recording contract is pending.
Matt Curlee lives in Rochester and performs as a continuo
player and accompanist, as well as a soloist, and is preparing a lecture program on the
complete organ works of Maurice Duruflé.
