Vassili Gerello biography
Russian baritone Vassili Gerello is one of the Kirov
Opera's most admired baritones and has impressed musicians, audiences and press alike
with his vocal elegance and eloquent acting.
Vassili Gerello graduated from the St Petersburg
Conservatory and since 1990 has been a soloist of the Kirov Opera at the Maryinsky
Theatre. His stylish performing came to world attention when he won prestigious
international competitions in Cardiff (1993) and St Petersburg (1994). His repertoire
includes Giorgio Germont in Verdi's La Traviata, Valentin in Gounod's Faust,
Napoleon in Prokofiev's War and Peace, Yeletsky in Tschaikovsky's Pique Dame,
Rodrigo in Verdi's Don Carlos, Papageno in Mozart's Magic Flute, Boccanegra in
Verdi's Simon Boccanegra, Count Almaviva in Mozart's Marriage of Figaro, Figaro
in Rossini's Barber of Seville, Onegin in Tschakovsky's Eugene Onegin, and
Shelkalov in Moussorgsky's Boris Godunov. He has recorded his interpretations of the
roles of Napoleon and Shelkalov.
Vassili Gerello has performed at major international opera
houses including the Royal Opera House Covent Garden, the Bastille Opera in Paris, the
Vienna State Opera, the New York Metropolitan Opera and the Teatro Colon in Buenos Aires.
As well as singing with Valery Gergiev at the Kirov Opera, Vassili Gerello has performed
