James Loughran

Loughran, James

( Born; Glasgow, 30 June 1931). Scottish conductor. He worked first in Bonn and Amsterdam but became known only with a competition success in 1961; he then became conductor of the Bournemouth SO (1962-5), the BBC Scottish SO (1965-71), the Hallé Orchestra (1971-83) and the Bamberg SO (1979-83). He made his USA début with the New York PO in 1972.
