Astrud Gilberto's "Jungle"
After several years without the release of a new album, Magya Productions is happy to announce the release of "Jungle", Astrud Gilberto's newest CD, recorded in the Summer of 2001.

Besides having had an accomplished career as a singer, Astrud's is a proliferous songwriter. With the exception of two songs ("Como Fué" and "The Look of Love"), the album is comprised of Astrud Gilberto's original compositions, written in a rich variety of different rhythms and moods.

The musicians backing Astrud's vocals are superb, and their performances filled with enthusiasm and feeling. Mark Lambert, Astrud's co-producer, guitarist, and sometimes partner in songwriting, is also an accomplished vocalist, and performs a vocal duet with her on their composition, "Dancing". Astrud feels very privileged to have been able not only to assemble such an outstanding group of musicians, but also to participate on a vocal duet with John Margolis (on the track "In Spite of the Odds"), a musician, vocalist, and songwriter whose work she greatly admires.

Although we would like to believe that the name Astrud Gilberto will "ring bells" with everyone, for those who may not be sure, she is the legendary Brazilian singer sometimes referred to as "The Girl from Ipanema" (title of the Grammy award winning song that made her famous), or as "The Queen of Bossa-Nova". Her distinctive style (a combination of the sensual rhythms of Brazil and American Pop and Jazz), has influenced several generations of musicians and vocalists, worldwide. The combination of international touring, the reissuing of some of her early records on CD, as well as the release of the "Desafinado" duet with George Michael has created an additional new generation of international fans for Astrud Gilberto, who joined the large number of her long time followers. Astrud Gilberto has just been selected to be inducted into the "International Latin Music Hall of Fame", in 2002.

Astrud sends warm regards to all of you and hopes that you will enjoy listening to "Jungle".
